How to Build a Reading Habit with Your Child

You do not need long reading sessions or a perfect routine. Begin with small, regular moments that leave room for your child’s curiosity.

Start small and keep it calm

A reading habit does not require a long stretch of free time. A few minutes together during a quiet part of the day can help your child connect reading with comfort and enjoyment.

If the same time each day does not work, attach reading to a routine you already have, such as after breakfast or before bed.

Follow your child’s curiosity

Pause to talk about the pictures, listen to questions, and sometimes let your child choose the story. The goal is not to race through pages, but to discover something together.

Let go of the perfect routine

Some days you will read briefly, and some days you may miss it. You can always return to reading together by opening the story you have at hand.
